Writing: Moment in Time - Perfect Day

His stop was next. This bus ride seemed short to him today. As he stands up and waits for the people before him to step off, he exalts over the day he had. He sealed the account. Of all the people at the office, he was the one to do it. Not only did he do the best job, he was commended by the big boss himself. Keep it up and you will be in line for the next promotion, he was told. Bumped and knocked slightly to the side by a young man with his IPOD blaring in his ears, he reached for the metal handle on top of the bus. Not even rudeness can ruin my day, he shot back to the young man in his mind.

As the line slowly moved down the bus, he couldn't contain the joys of today. He hadn't seen his daughter for 3 years because of a trying court battle, but today his ex-wife relented and said he could visit her. Before he caught the bus, he stopped at the toy store near his office and got her a small stuffed bear. She would throw her arms around his neck and cry out how much she loves him. His ex-wife would see how good of a father he is, he would not let them down. Stepping off the bus, he glanced up to the bright, cloudless sky. The shimmering sun and flawless blue made him even more joyful. Everything was working to make today the greatest day in his life.

The car never stopped. It came over the curb and never stopped. Later that evening, on the 11 o'clock news, a mother and her crying daughter heard a report about a man holding a small stuffed bear killed while stepping off a bus.
